Casio Content Without DSLRs

March 31, 2005 — Casio has no intention of entering the lucrative DSLR market, according to a story posted by MacWorld yesterday. The company wants to aim for the safer middle ground, Casio president John Clough said in an interview with the publication. Value and innovation are the company’s focus, which appeal to digital converts and beginning photographers.

Casio dodges the low-end of digital cameras, but doesn’t compete for the high-end single lens reflex market either. Instead, it offers the majority of consumers desirable features such as long-lasting battery life, larger LCD screens, and camera cradles included with every digital camera.

According to the interview, Casio thinks the next trendy product in digital photography will be a hybrid camcorder-camera. Manufacturers such as Panasonic and Sanyo have made such models, but Casio thinks they can improve the quality and make it available for a wider audience.
