Casio Announces 7x Optical Zoom V8
![]() |
| Take a look at the V8 |
At nearly $70 less than the original price of the EX-V7, introduced in January, the V8 has many of the same camera specifications. The EX-V8 retains the built-in 7x optical zoom lens and 2.5-inch LCD with 230,400-pixel resolution, but has an 8.1-megapixel CCD sensor versus the 7.2-megapixel CCD on the V7.
The Casio V8 borrows other features from the V7, including the Exilim Engine 2.0 image processor that allows for a four-part blur reduction system. The system consists of mechanical image stabilization, which shifts the sensor to compensate for camera shake; motion analysis technology, which determines the best ISO setting and shutter speed for a scene; Anti Shake DSP to boost shutter speed and ISO; and electronic image stabilization for Movie mode. The new model combines Face Detection technology with auto-tracking auto focus to find and properly expose human faces.
For video capture, the Casio V8 can record at H.264 video encoding, which produces small files. Casio added a YouTube Capture Mode which optimizes size and quality settings so users can easily post to the popular online video sharing site. Users can select from three movie resolutions: a wide 848 x 480, standard 640 x 480, or 320 x 240 LP. With the included YouTube Uploader for Casio software, users can post to the Web in just two steps, according to a company press release.
The Casio EX-V8 is compatible with SD, SDHC, MMC, and MMC plus media and accepts lithium-ion batteries. The Casio V8 will be available in silver.
