April 10, 2006 – Astrophotographers looking to catch the stars with the Canon EOS 20Da will have to order their model by April 21st. According to the Canon’s Japanese web site, the limited edition camera has reached its limit. The 20Da has been on the market for about a year but will be phased out because of the 30D’s introduction.

The Canon EOS 20Da shares many of the same specifications with its 20D siblings, such as the 8.2-megapixel CMOS sensor. The 20Da, however, was fitted to astrophotographers with its modified infrared filter that allowed more red tones to enter the image. The other difference between the two cameras is the live preview available on the 20Da. Intended for night photography only, the camera locks up the mirror and opens the shutter for a view on the 1.8-inch LCD screen.

The Canon EOS 20Da made its debut in Japan in February 2005, then was sold in Europe in June 2005. It came to the United States the following month.
