Conclusion

Canon PowerShot SX200 IS

The compact ultrazoom market has become a relatively crowded space, giving consumers a lot of choices. It's not surprising given that these cameras are among the most versatile on the market, with impressive zoom ranges from wide angle to a solid telephoto in a pocketable form factor. Canon's SX110 IS was a solid camera, but given the competition Canon needed to step up, and it seems to have done so with the 12 megapixel SX200 IS.

First up, the SX200 IS has significantly improved the styling of the camera over its predecessor. Canon has also improved the zoom range from 10x to 12x, while adding true wide angle capabilities with a 28mm lens. On top of that the SX200 IS sports 720p HD video capture. Combined with the bevy of manual controls available this makes the SX200 IS an incredibly flexible camera. We're looking forward to seeing if the SX200 IS's image quality matches our positive first impressions of the specifications and hardware.

The SX200 IS is available as of March 2009 for a suggested retail price of $349.99.
