Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Macro Sample

Focal length: 6mm
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter: 1/60
ISO: 1600

For this macro shot taken in program mode, the camera compensated for the dark hiding spot of this spider by upping the ISO value to 1600. That’s why the image is rather noisy, as you can see on the 100% crops below.

Landscape Sample

Focal length: 6mm
Aperture: f/4.0
Shutter: 1/60
ISO: 80

This shot was also taken with the camera in macro focus mode, but with the Landscape scene mode. This boosts the saturation of the colors somewhat, but the camera still managed to capture some detail on the bright flower.

Standard Sample

Focal length: 6mm
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter: 1/200
ISO: 160

This example was taken in program mode. It shows us two things: that fall is here, and that the SX120 has some slight distortion, which can be seen in the curve of the lamppost on the left.

Zoom Sample

Focal length: 46.6mm
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/1250
ISO: Auto

In this example from near the telephoto end of the zoom range, you can see how the details are sharp in the center of the image (see the eye), but get rather soft at the edges.

Panasonic resists the urge to cram more megapixels and more focal length into their latest ultrazoom. The FZ47 instead focuses on image quality and features, resulting in an incredibly strong camera that we loved shooting with. Read full 16-part review
