The Canon PowerShot SD960 IS is a small, curvaceous point-and-shoot that captures 12.1-megapixel stills and high definition 720p video, with a 4x zoom lens and handsome 2.8-inch LCD. We had a chance to try out a pre-production version at the PMA show, and were impressed with the fit, finish and features. A detailed First Impressions review follows.
Last week at the PMA (Photo Marketing Association) trade show, we got a sneak peak at one of Canon's upcoming additions to their Digital ELPH series: the Canon PowerShot SD960 IS. The small, curvaceous point-and-shoot captures 12.1-megapixel stills and high definition 720p video. It might not be as small as its SD780 cousin, but the increase in size also gives us a slightly more impressive lens and a larger, 2.8-inch LCD.
The SD960 is expected to arrive in stores this month for about $330. That's a bit steep, but the clean aesthetic and the excellent scrolling control wheel alone might make this the camera to spring for in 2009. Of course, no verdict is final until we get the camera off the show floor and into our labs.
