Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Landscape Sample

Focal length: 5.9mm
Aperture: f/9
Shutter: 1/100
ISO: 80

Shot with white balance set to sunlight, and color mode on Vivid Blue to make the sky really pop.

Around the edges of the leftmost crop, you can see the telltale halo of over-sharpening. Even at this low ISO, there’s still a little noise.

Macro Sample

Focal length: 5.9mm
Aperture: f/3.2
Shutter: 1/80
ISO: 80

Shot in macro mode, with sun white balance, and center weighted metering.

The lens of the camera was almost touching the statue, and yet the camera was still able to find a focus.

The tiny depth of field will endear this camera to macro-lovers. Only a tiny area of the frame was in focus, but it was blister sharp.

Color Sample

Focal length: 7.2mm
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter: 1/15
ISO: 80

This setup shows a number of objects that you’ll probably recognize, and be able to spot how well their colors are displayed.

In standard color mode, the SD780 had some trouble with reds and yellows, but did well with other colors.

Low Light Sample

Focal length: 12.5mm
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/6
ISO:1600

Shot under low light (around 40 lux), and with a manual white balance, to show how the SD780 handles in low light conditions.

While it’s a little noisy, this isn’t too bad for a point-and-shoot. You can definitely spot how soft it is due to noise reduction, though.
