Introduction

The Canon EOS M is the first compact interchangeable lens camera from the DSLR giant, with a new lens mount, APS-C sensor, and pared down controls. The EOS M includes the same image sensor and processor as the mid-range Canon Rebel T4i, with a level of control more in line with their S100 line of premium compact cameras. It marks not only Canon's entry into the mirrorless market, but also the first new lens mount from the manufacturer in some time. The EF-M mount lineup will initially include a 22mm f/2.0 pancake, a standard 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, and a $199 autofocus-enabled adapter allowing for the attachment of EF and EF-S lenses to the EOS M. The body is expected to be available in black and white options sometime in October, with North America slated to see a standard kit with the 22mm f/2.0 lens for $799.99.
