Canon’s Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype Spotted
November 2, 2005 - There’s been the first sighting of Canon’s new hydrogen fuel cell prototypes for small electronics (reported on here). Softpedia.com reports that at a Japanese trade show last week, Canon presented the prototypes in addition to a digital camera actually powered by one.
The hydrogen cell sits in the same area of the camera body as a traditional lithium-ion battery does, and they are both roughly the same size and contain roughly the same amount of energy. However, Canon stressed that they are working on a way to increase the hydrogen fuel cell’s density, which would enable it to deliver three to five times more power than a lithium-ion cell.
