CES 2007 Wraps Up

Las Vegas, Nevada, January 11, 2007 – Today wrapped up the last day of CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics tradeshow which celebrated its 40th with 2700 exhibitors and 140,000 attendees from all over the world. Exhibitors from every variety of technology covered the 1.8 million net square feet floor area, that is equal to the size of 35 football fields, according to CEA Manager of Event Public Relations Sarah Szabo.

Some highlights from the show included keynote speakers Bill Gates, an old-time favorite at CES, and Dell chairman Michael Dell. Overall, one professional UV camera and sixteen new point-and-shoot models from Samsung, Fuji, Kodak, Casio, and Pentax were introduced in a rainbow of colors, some with face detection and others with touch screens.

Notably absent from the digital camera line-up were DSLRs or any cameras from manufacturers such as Canon and Nikon, as well as Sony, HP, Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma. New printers, with the exception of two Epson printers, were also nowhere to be found.

CEA market research predicts that consumers will buy over $27.5 million cameras worldwide in 2007 with the average price digital camera slightly dropping to $235. While consumers, by CES tradition, cannot attend, this trade-only show allows industry people to make partnerships around the globe, according to Szabo.

Photo lovers and consumers can look forward to more camera announcements at PMA 2007 in Las Vegas, just two short months away. Check back with DigitalCameraInfo.com in March for full live PMA coverage.
