BenQ Sells Digital Camera Division

BenQMay 22, 2007 – BenQ Corp. last week announced its digital camera division will be acquired by Ability Enterprise Co., Ltd, a Taiwan-based digital camera manufacturer. As part of the deal, Ability will acquire BenQ’s manufacturing equipments and assets on June 30, according to a BenQ company press release.

“Digital camera[s] [are] of our most important and profitable product lines,” said BenQ President Sheaffer Lee. “Ability will remain as one of our most important strategic suppliers for future BenQ branded digital cameras.”

Approximately 70 BenQ employees in the digital camera research and development unit will be transferred to Ability.

The acquisition comes after a less-than-profitable year for BenQ. The company's mobile phone division struggled, according to a May 18th Reuters report.
