ArcSoft Releases Panorama Maker 4

May 31, 2006 – ArcSoft, Inc. released its newest version of panorama software yesterday. Panorama Maker 4 has three modes to stitch photos horizontally, vertically, or in a 360-degree circle. The new version supports more file formats, has more printing options, and offers more manual control of the panorama. ArcSoft Panorama Maker 4 will retail for $39.99 for new users and will cost existing users $24.99 to upgrade.

"Panorama Maker 4 is truly an amazing piece of software," said Stephan Cote, ArcSoft’s vice president of sales in the desktop imaging group, in yesterday’s press release. "In just seconds it will stitch a small set of pictures into a beautiful, wide-angle shot or turn a whole series of photos into a panoramic work of art."

Cote said the company made many improvements to the previous version of Panorama Maker. "The workflow has been simplified; photo selection and photo ordering is now fully automated and photo stitching is fast and flawless," he said. The new software has an automatic selection tool where users can choose one photo and the program finds matching photos that can be stitched to it. The program will then arrange the photos automatically and users can check it.

There are cropping and straightening tools for tweaking the final product manually. The entire panorama can be viewed in a full-screen mode, then printed with a new function that supports multi-sheet and banner printing. The stitched photos can be saved in several file formats including JPEG, TIFF, BMP, and PCT. Users can also export panoramas as 360-degree virtual tours for use with QuickTime VR and HTML.

Many digital camera manufacturers include a version of ArcSoft Panorama Maker with their included software. More and more cameras are including panoramic modes to assist in lining shots up; most models that have this feature require users to load the pictures into the software before stitching them together.
