Adobe Releases Lightroom Beta 3.0 for Windows

July 19, 2006 – Today, Adobe Systems Inc. announced the Windows-based public beta version 3.0 for their increasingly popular workflow management software, Adobe Lightroom.

“A significant number of professional photographers operate on the Windows platform, and Adobe Lightroom beta is designed to support their workflow needs,” said Adobe product management senior director Kevin Connor in today’s press release. Initially offered only for Macs, the cross-platform Lightroom will now accommodate Windows-based users with today’s new beta release.

Lightroom beta 3.0 can support RAW files, along with JPEG and TIFF formats, and is compatible with new cameras, including the Canon EOS 30D, Pentax *ist DL2, Epson R-D1s, Leaf Aptus 65 and Aptus 75, Olympus EVOLT E-330, and the Samsung GX-1S.

Beta version 3.0 will also feature a new user interface in which photographers can quickly scroll through images and can use the Quick One-to-One Zoom magnification tool.

The commercial version of the cross-platform Lightroom will be available in late 2006, although pricing has not yet been disclosed. The free beta version is now available for download at http://www.adobe.com/cgi-bin/redirect?http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom.
