3 New HD Video Point & Shoots From Canon
Canon has announced 3 new point & shoot cameras, all of which can capture high definition video as well as still images. The S95 will be priced at $399.99, and is an update to the popular S90. The main upgrade for this camera is the addition of the ability to capture 720p video: the S90 was limited to 640 by 480 resolution video. A mini HDMI port allows for connections to HDTVs. It offers a zoom lens with a very wide f/2.0 aperture that makes it easier to shoot low light images, as it can gather more light. A control ring around the lens can be used to control a number of features, including zooming and aperture or shutter speed, as well as a new high dynamic range (HDR) mode that combines several images to increase the dynamic range of the final image. The S95 will be priced at $399.99 and will be available in late August.
The SX130IS captures 12 megapixel still images and 720p video through a 12x zoom lens that offers a 28 to 336mm zoom range. A 3-inch LCD on the back of the camera body previews the images. The SX130IS will cost $249.99 and will be available in late August.
The SD4500IS is an update to the SD4000 that we reviewed recently here. Canon claims that the new camera is the thinnest 10x zoom camera available, and the new camera ups the video resolution to 1080p. The still image resolution remains unchanged at 10 megapixels, though, but the CMOS sensor offers a new handheld night scene mode that combines three images into one to take long exposure night images without a tripod. It will be priced at $399.99 when it is released in September.
