Ricoh Introduces Caplio RR530
September 16, 2005 – Continuing with their series of releases, Ricoh announced the Caplio RR530 Wednesday. The 5-megapixel digital camera is designed to introduce beginners into the "world of digital photography," the Sept. 14 press release read. This novice model has all the basic components with its 5 megapixel, 1/2.5-inch CCD and its 3x optical zoom lens. The Ricoh Caplio RR530 has a 1.8-inch LCD screen with brightness adjustments and 12 MB of internal memory to sweeten the pot. The Ricoh Caplio RR530 is built for people who get overwhelmed when too many choices arise. The RR530 has only six shooting modes, including one movie mode, an auto mode, and four scene modes. The movie mode shoots video at 320 x 240 pixels of resolution. The scene modes include Portrait, Landscape, Sports, and Night Scene. Manual functionality is not a priority here, as users can only select modes with very few controls. The ISO can be selected to 100 or 200 and the white balance includes an auto mode and five presets.
The 3x optical zoom lens is equivalent to a 32-96 mm lens in 35 mm format. While many compact digital cameras have this length of lens, most have their largest aperture around f/3.5. The Ricoh Caplio RR530’s aperture can open as large as f/2.8 at its widest setting and f/4.8 in the telephoto setting – not that this is manually controllable, but it’s there.
The 3.5 x 1.1 x 2.4-inch Ricoh Caplio RR530 can act as a webcam with Microsoft Windows OS. It will be available in October for £129.99.
