fuji S100fs information
I have had my S100fs for 2 weeks.
Overall opinion (so far) better than fuji S9500.
things I have found.
The raw mode is great.(but 22mb per image).
The jpeg images produced can vary in size from 1mb to 16mb.
The finepix RAW converter is slow but produces good images.
The update to Adobe elements raw conversion 4.4 has a known problem.
There are more options than anybody could test in a lifetime.
Image quality is IMHO very good for a point and shoot.
Image quality compared to Pentax Dslr. 80% but half the price.
Mobility compared to DSLR much more comfortable.
Fun compared to Dslr. Much more fun. Best adult toy.
Processing time verses photographic time. 300 images=3-6 hours computer editing/processing.
Macro capabilities. zoom macro good. F2.8 super macro rivals my sigma 50mm F2.8 but was also good on the S9500.
Crop available from 11 MP verses 6-10mp much more than I thought it would be.
The color is vibrant. (fuji).
You may need/use 4mb+ ram on computer if you take a lot of photos.
You will need external hard drive if you want to save raw images.
100%/200%/300% crop excellent.
Have not used all finepix editing tools but will do in due course.
Image stableising fair to good compared to Pentax.
I will use this camera on trips to new places or when I cant carry my Dslr kit. The quality is good enough for photoalbum production. Superb for internet.
The quality is good enough for stock sites but watch depth of field settings.
The quality would not be good enough for professional usage.
The quality of movie mode is 100% better than dslr but not perfect.
Have not seriously used dynamic range or filmoptions. not important as I have Dslr quality available.
Bracketting. Have used and liked bracket EV.Top seven means first seven images. last seven means last seven but slow compared to Dslr. Image stableising should be turned off in these modes. Same as mechanical dslr stableising.
Startup time much quicker than changing lenses on dslr.
Viewfinder good but not glasses friendly. Useless in tracking moving objects such as surfers in a bracket mode.
LCD good for zooming, framing and awkward positions especially in maco and supermacro work.
I use manual setting for most of my work on this camera.
I will add to these points as they become available.
You will take a lot of wrong optional setting photos when you first begin.
I am sure there will be disagreements but what the heck, I love my wife but that doesn't mean I agree with her.
