Thumbs down Canon SD950 IS, red-eye reduction

Anyone with this camera having a problem with red-eye reduction?? I have gone through the menu and turned the feature "ON" but the proof is in the pictures. I even went throught the owners manual to double check. The red-eye reduction does not work well on this camera. The orange light turns on before the flash and prior to the photo taken, but the results are poor for red-eye reduction. The camera has a red-eye correction feature, wonder why Canon decided to think they should add this compllicated feature as an alternative fix. I have used other cameras with red-eye reduction...flash flickers before the photo is taken and that to me works every time for red-eye reduction. Thinking of returning the camera if I can't get red-eye reduction to work right.
