Default formatting memory card

My friend got tired of my borrowing her camera and gave me a Kodak Easy Share Z700 for my birthday. It only can take about 6 photos, then it says "Memory Full". I bought a memory card, but the instructions with the card say to format it before using. I consulted the camera owner's manual and attempted to format it. However, I did not see the logo for formatting on the menu. Can someone familiar with this brand of camera give me step-by-step instructions? Thanks.

The procedure for formatting the card appears to be detailed on page 37-38 of the manual. In the pdf version, that's page 44 or so:

http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins...Z700_GLB_en.pdf

From what I can gather, the procedure goes something like this:
[list][*]Press menu[*]Scroll to setup and press OK[*]Scroll to format and press OK (asssuming the manual lists the menu items in order, this is second to last in this menu)[*]Select "Memory Card" and press OK

From what I gather, that should format the card.

For the most part, though, formatting usually isn't required. Most cameras that use an SD memory card do so in the same way, and use the same formatting. The SD card was formatted at the factory to suit most cameras, so I'm sort of surprised that it didn't just work.

For example, I don't think I've ever had to format a card before using it in any camera I can think of.
