Default Know how to fix this?

Hi all

am playing with some old images. This was one where I didn't get the contrast right. As you can see the foreground is lost. When I use magic wand to select it out and adjust the contrast there is an annoying line across the tree tops.

I'll post the original then the photoshopped version.

Know how to fix it?

Kt

I messed with it a bit, making a second layer and using the sky from the top layer.... I think part of the problem is that the sun does light the top of the trees. You could try a larger amount of feathering in your selection... ie. select the bottom, then select inverse, then add feathering. I tried that but as I say, I still got a bit of a bright line.

How's this?

I made a two layers of the original in Photoshop. On one layer, I tweaked levels so I could isolate the foreground (by making them perfectly black), magic wanded it, I then used this selection to tweak shadow/higlights on the second layer. Next, I got a little rubber (opacity 30%) and blended out the horrid line. It didn't look right so I increased rubber size and brought back the original dark trees too. I don't think you'd ever see detail in faraway backlit trees...

I did a shot a bit like this a few months ago - I'll try and dig it out - but I found that a really huge flash makes for an interesting effect...

Yep I think thats better.

Now when you say "levels" do you mean in brightness & contrast?

What do you mean by rubber? Erase?

thanks

By Levels, I mean the funny looking histogram thing which pops up when you go to: Image>Adjustments>Levels

And, yes, rubber = eraser. :-)
