No successor for the Powershot S80 expected for this year
Just thought I would post this information that I acquired from one of Canon's camcorder deparment managers. After speaking with him regarding some of the higher-end digital cameras, I discovered that there is no successor planned for the S80 this year. He said that since this camcorder is classified as a "pro" camera by them, the lifespan is usually longer.
Future plans for the Powershot S series include high-def 30fps support, which is really going to be neat. I asked why such a feature was not implemented yet, and he said that it was solemnly due to media storage restrictions. He said that once media storage capacities increase, 30 fps high-def will be their main feature.
Little fun Canon fact: Did you know that their first high-definition video device was indeed the Powershot S80? That's right, a digital camera was their first produced high-definition device. Even preceeded the amazing HD1 camcorder. Just thought it would be fun to share.
