Default need advice on compact

Hi. short version is I have a slr that I love but want a compact to compliment. major concern is shutter lag. I'm an auto-set kind of user--dont want to fiddle, but demand top quality and will pay for it. Again, shutter lag drives me nuts but want top quality too. Has that shutter lag gap been bridged yet on compacts vs SLR's? . Any suggestions? Thanks

longer version:

What level of photographer are you? novice

How "deep" into settings do you want to be? just point-and-shoot

What is your primary subject. toddlers

What is your secondary use or subject. dogs, landscape

Will you be shooting mostly in low light? probably not

What is your budget? will pay up if worth it

What cameras are you considering now and what attracted you to them? too many, thats why I'm on this forum

Rank what features are most important to you? Image quality, fast shutter speed, image stabilization.

What type of camera would you prefer and why? compact

Do you have size preference? compact

Do you have lenses or accessories that are brand specific that you want to use? I own a sony alpha slr

Default Re: need advice on compact

Hi...I am very much attracted by the Nikon D40 because it is compact and relatively simple but allegedly with high performance. I would recommend the same.. The D40 is new technology. It's image quality is far superior to the D100, and it's ISO performance blows it out of the water... My dad bought the same couple of months ago from http://www.checkcost.co.uk/digital-cameras/c/4368/
They have lot of sellers for this product… try reading the expert reviews provided in the link for better idea… good luck
